Three teams from Colorado yacht clubs showed up to the second event of the Melges Winter Series hosted by Sarasota Sailing Squadron over the weekend of February 26-28, 2021.
Who could have thought that Colorado—a completely land-locked desert state—would be named the home of the second largest M15 fleet in the United States.
Melges 15 and 24 owners are rallying for a strong fleet start at the 2021 Helly Hansen NOOD Regatta at St. Petersburg, Florida on April 2-4.
Melges 15s are escaping the winter freeze by heading down to Sarasota, Florida where the Sarasota Sailing Squadron is hosting the inaugural Melges 15 Winter Series. Sailors are enjoying exciting one design racing amongst the mild 70°F temperatures, steady breeze, and beautiful scenery.

There are three spinnaker douses that every Melges 15 sailor should learn and master—the Windward, Mexican, and Leeward douse. Here is a step by step guide on performing these three douses.
A Gybe is a sailing maneuver used to change a boat’s direction where the stern crosses through the wind. The process might look a little daunting on a Melges 15—having to juggle both a jib and spinnaker—but it actually breaks down quite simply. Follow these steps and practice to master a smooth and fast gybe.
