The Corsair 880 Sport is a high-performance, 28-foot trailerable trimaran designed by Francois Peru as the spiritual successor to the legendary F-27. It effortlessly bridges the gap between blistering racing speeds and family-friendly cruising livability, earning prestigious industry accolades like Cruising World’s Best Sport.

Performance & Rigging
The Sport package swaps the standard cruising setup for a highly optimized racing configuration:

  • Rigging Upgrades: It features a tall 13.5m to 13.8m rotating carbon wing mast (about 70 cm taller than standard), supported by high-spec synthetic Dyneema shrouds and Kigo blocks. [1, 2, 3]

  • Sail Wardrobe: Outfitted with an expansive 62.9 m² upwind sail plan, including a square-top mainsail and overlapping genoa crafted from black aramid fibers. An asymmetrical spinnaker and furling Code Zero provide off-the-wind punch, flown from a removable 1.5m carbon bowsprit. [1, 2]

  • Handling: The helm is incredibly communicative, well-balanced, and highly responsive. The raked daggerboard and high-spec lifting rudder allow the trimaran to point as high upwind as a dedicated racing monohull. [1, 2]

    Hull Design & Speed

    • Advanced Dynamics: Utilizing three vacuum-infused E-glass and PVC foam core hulls with carbon fiber reinforcements, the boat features reverse-swept bows. These bows drive buoyancy forward to resist pitching, making it safer to push the boat hard into heavy gusts. [1, 2, 3, 4]

    • Planing & Velocity: A flattened hull profile with minimal rocker and a square stern allows the boat to pop onto a plane easily at around 10 knots. In testing, reviewers note that the 880 Sport effortlessly cruises at 13 to 15 knots upwind, hits 17 knots on a power reach, and comfortably triggers 20+ knots downwind

      Interior Comfort & Ergonomics

Unlike pure racing multihulls, the 880 provides surprising cruising amenities for weekend getaways: [1]

      • Headroom & Space: The cabin offers full standing headroom (over 6'2") for an average-height sailor, a compact galley, and a completely enclosed head/shower compartment.

      • Berths: It comfortably sleeps up to 5 people, highlighting a massive double-width, queen-length berth nestled neatly underneath the aft cockpit.

      • Unique Views: Tinted Lexan water-facing windows placed right beneath the forward beams offer spectacular panoramic views of the water rushing by while you are in the saloon. [1, 2, 3, 4]

        Trailering & Logistics

The signature feature remains Corsair's patented folding ama system. [1]

        • Folding System: By releasing a few structural bolts, the massive 22'3" sailing beam folds down to a road-legal 8'2" trailering width in under a minute.

        • Towing Weight: Ready to hit the highway on its dual-axle aluminum trailer, the total towing weight sits right around 2,160kg to 2,450kg. This makes it the largest performance trimaran on the market that can still be legally towed behind a standard SUV or half-ton 4WD truck.

        • Shallow Water: With the centerboard and rudder raised, the boat draws just 45 cm (1.5 ft) of water, making it perfect for shallow-water exploring or beaching directly onto the sand
